			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Join us on Thursday, March 14 at 7pm in the Library for our next general meeting.</p>
<p>This is the first of three meetings devoted to MAP testing and the standardized testing that our students participate in.</p>
<p>Join us Thursday for the first meeting, which is an information session addressing the pros and cons of MAP testing. Staff who have given the MAP will present their experience with the test and relate how it connects to student learning.</p>
<p>One hour before, the computer lab will be open for six parents/ guardians to take the MAP test with some staff from the Math Dept. This will give some of the community a direct experience which will be helpful for the conversation &amp; lead everyone to a better understanding.</p>

<p>We are looking forward to the families at Chief Sealth communicating with staff to ensure that standardized testing is useful &amp; appropriate for our students.</p>

<p><strong>Karyn Brownson, <em>LMSW</em></strong> is a KingCounty trainer with the Youth Suicide Prevention Program. They are a statewide, nonprofit organization whose mission is to reduce youth suicide attempts and deaths in Washington. Karyn will cover adolescent development and mental health, signs of depression and anxiety in teens, red flags for suicide risk and what parents can do to create a supportive environment, and intervene in a crisis.  <a title="blocked::http://www.yspp.org/" href="http://www.yspp.org" target="_blank">www.yspp.org</a>.</p>
<p><strong> Jane Koltracht</strong> works for the UW &amp; Seattle Children&#8217;s Hospital on a project called the CARES study through the Treatment Clinic for Teens. They are a research clinic offering six months of treatment for suicidal/self-harming teenagers free of charge.  She will be discussing their current recruiting plan for eligible teenagers which will be continuing to enroll teens for some time. <a title="blocked::mailto:caresuw@uw.edu" href="mailto:caresuw@uw.edu">caresuw@uw.edu</a></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Princeton Review Assessment (PRA) was created to help decide which test will allow your student to shine: the ACT or the SAT.  Join us in January to get answers to your questions about  both tests, and learn strategies for taking them.</p>
<p><strong>WHAT:  </strong></p>
<p>The Princeton Review Assessment (PRA) is a two-part program:</p>
<p>1: Diagnostic, &#8220;Mock&#8221; Test (Students only)</p>
<ul>
<li>Provides an opportunity to become familiar with both the SAT &amp; ACT – this test is half SAT and half ACT in one sitting</li>
<li>Provides preliminary indication of whether you may do better on one test or the other</li>
<li>Juniors, sophmores and freshmen are invited</li>
</ul>
<p>2: Scores Back Strategy Session (Students and Parents/Guardians)</p>
<ul>
<li>The student receives a detailed score report showing strengths/weaknesses</li>
<li>The report shows the correct answer to every test question (keep your test booklet!)</li>
<li>Students are provided strategies and techniques that can be applied on the official ACT or SAT</li>
</ul>
